Laurie is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator ( CDE ). She is currently consulting in Southern California ; San Diego and New York City. Laurie has worked with both adult and pediatric clients in a large academic setting as well as maintained a private practice. Most recently, Laurie has been with New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Physicians and Weill Cornell Pediatric Endocrinology. Her experience with Weill Cornell Physicians was counseling adult patients with a wide variety of health and nutrition related conditions. In addition, Laurie Block was the Program Director with a team of endocrinologists to develop The Kids and Teens Healthy Weight Program at the Komansky Center in New York.
Prior to her time with NYP Laurie was a team member at the Whittier Diabetes Program at the Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego. and the Sharp Hospital Diabetes Program. She has consulted hospitals including Mount Sinai /Beth Israel ; New York Eye and Ear Infirmary; and the Gerald Friedman Institute at Beth Israel/Mount Sinai Medical Center. Laurie has worked alongside Dr. Howard Shaprio, Author of the Picture Perfect ; Jeanne Jones nationally known Cookbook author, Geralyn Coopersmith author Fit and Female. She has enjoyed writing for Diabetes Self Management, Diabetes Forecast ; mentoring nutrition and medical students studying at Columbia and New York University, ; and loves traveling where she has particular insight into various cultural concepts surrounding
food and health. She is a strong advocate of the American Diabetes Associtaon and Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation.
At this time she is taking advantage of the world of telemedicine and has Learned the value of texting, and facetime to help patient reach their goals. Laurie is a nutritionist for those with a busy lifestyle that often have difficulty attending an " in office visit".
